Supporting CMS,
CATHEDRAL NEWSLETTER - 12 June 2025
Friends in Christ, as the end of the financial year draws near, I commend CMS - the Church Missionary Society - to you. CMS is the organisation by which we send and support gospel workers around to the world so that, as their slogan goes, we might see "a world that knows Jesus".
Through CMS, we currently pray for and support:
Josh and Susannah Apieczonek and kids in Lyon in post-Christian France;
Simon and Jess Cowell and kids in Bari in Catholic Italy;
'N' helping run a language school in a south-east Asian nation, where her name and details cannot be published for security reasons; and
Gillian Akers, using her retirement as an active church member in Rennes, in Brittany, France.
Josh and Susannah and their family will soon be completing over a decade of service in France and returning home to live in Australia. We expect to see and hear from them for a final time later this year. Gillian Akers is also coming home for a couple of months in January-February and we should see her as well.
And our former Student Ministers, Lachie and Zaneta Neal have just finished the CMS cross-cultural training at St Andrew's Hall, Melbourne. They are on their way back to Sydney for seven months or so. They expect Zaneta to give birth to their first child later this year, before heading to Japan for mission in early 2026. If you'd like to join them in prayer through it all, you can sign up to receive their periodic prayer newsletter here.
Along with the Chapter, we encourage Cathedral attenders to support CMS - and other Anglican ministries and charities (like Anglican Aid, Anglicare, Moore College, Youthworks and Bush Church Aid) - directly as you see fit. At this time of year, I invite you to give generously to the CMS Lasting Hope Appeal by 30 June. Your gift enables CMS missionaries to serve long-term in their locations as they share the hope of Jesus.
